We just got back from a wonderful and relaxing trip to Ireland and have tons of pictures to show...if we can just get some batteries to pull them from our camera! It was actually quite a strange ‘holiday’ in that we had a 4-day weekend, everything was basically shut down, the city was empty, and we were travelling to a foreign country. Of course this trip was just another stamp in Matt’s passport while I on the otherhand have lots of catching up to do. We stayed at a place called the ‘Man of Aran B&B’ which was constructed specifically for a movie that was filmed there back in 30’s about life on the Aran Islands. We didn’t get to see the movie prior to our trip, but Matt has ordered it to catch up on what we missed.
Overall it was an exhausting travel day on Saturday (see previous blog) only to arrive to wonderful weather and overcast skies. We were served a delightful Irish Breakfast (poached egg, bacon, sausage, blood pudding, tomato, and hot tea) and rented a couple of bikes to tour the island. We found some interesting churches, monuments, cliffs, and even visited a portion of beach where the seals like to chill out. With miles of riding bikes we were completely exhausted and slept the rest of the evening. The next morning we repeated with the Irish Breakfast and then rode into town to catch a tourist van to the ‘tourist spots’ we failed to see the previous day. We enjoyed a wonderful fish dinner at the B&B and treated ourselves to a movie about the history of the island before heading to bed in preparation for an early start on Monday.
Monday became another travel day spent mostly in the Dublin Airport. We had lunch at the food court area and spent most of our relaxing time reading and touring through the shops looking for nothing in particular. We finally arrived in London to some new roommates...to our surprise...and a nice comfy bed! It was a good extended weekend and I think it did us both some good. I don’t think we’ve spent this much time together in quite awhile, so hopefully we’ll be able to do this again in the future. Our next trip will probably be to the States in December, unless of course I/we join Garett in Europe after his study abroad program finishes. We’ll see weheqrgrgqrqgeaegqer (Matt) where the cards fall! Love you all and keep in touch!
